Positive impressions came out of my very first ThinkLA event which took place at the Beverly Hilton, in Beverly Hills, CA.
With a huge outcome of over 900 attendees, it was a fantastic content-fill "Mobile Breakfast," which touched base on challenges, successes, and "what's next" type of questions by speakers from Pandora to Business Insider, and a couple of others. There were a few focuses at this event that were recognized by each speaker which included mobile landscape, tools for mobile marketing, and of course the topic everyone is curious about, wearable tech.
Janine Gianfredi, the marketing lead for Google Glass, talked about, well of course, Google Glass! It was a very interesting insight presentation that highlighted the functions of Google Glass and why it’s the next big thing. If you haven’t already tested out a Google Glass, you should the next time you get a chance to do so. Some love it while others don’t find use for it, but Ms. Gianfredi reassures the audience that Google Glass is still in its first stages of production and that many can’t-live-without-it features are still waiting to be incorporated. However, currently a couple of concerns people have are: What would I use it for if I have my mobile device on me at all times? Wouldn’t it distract the user from functioning in real life? Why is it so bulky on the face? Ms. Gianfredi did a wonderful job answering these questions in her presentation, concluding that wearables arn’t always going to start off pretty (using an example of a photo displaying Google Glass in its early stage being a pair of goggles with wires attached and hanging from a backpack). Although I’m not sure if my ego is big enough to rock a pair of Google Glass yet, the picture example did make the current pair of Google Glasses look not too shabby.
Last thing I was impressed by was not only when Ms. Gianfredi gave a high energy delivery on Google Glass, but the fact that she had a set up in the main lounge a testing area for a hands-on demonstrations of this wearable tech, giving 900 marketers a feel for the product. What great exposure! Overall, Ms. Gianfredi's presentation tied in perfectly with ThinkLA's aim to discuss on what's next in mobile.
