5 MUST’S Every Contact Form Should Include

For a website to be successful, an excellent contact form is an absolute must. Stellar contact forms must look amazing but must also function great. It has been my experience in the web marketing world that often times website developers forget about function! Check out my top 5 MUSTS for a successful contact form.
1. Less is More
Do not require potential patrons to provide a detailed history of their lives in order to submit a contact form. Hubspot’s Dan Zarrella found that by reducing a form from 4 fields to 3 fields, the conversion rate improved by almost half. Wow! Reducing the number of fields like name, email, phone by 1 field can boost your bottom line.
2. Include a Social Media Link.
Often times in daily social media maintenance visitors will reach out via Facebook or Twitter before anything else. Websites break from time to time so make your business accessible on social media. I strongly recommend putting links to your Facebook and Twitter profiles on your ‘contact us form’.
3. List Field Explanations
A field explanation makes it much easier for users to fill out a contact form. For example, a field explanation could be “Phone Number (XXX-XXX-XXXX)” text next to the phone field on a ‘contact us form’. Not everyone is tech savvy so build your user experience accordingly.
4. Do NOT Use Text Links
People are more attracted to buttons and they provide a far more obvious way for the average individual to get in touch. A ‘contact us form’ text link can get lost especially on mobile phones or smaller screens.
5. Have a Thank You
After a contact form is submitted there should always be a thank you for contacting us note that appears. This ensures that the person who submitted the form understands their communication has been received and the business cares about what they have to say. It increases trust and appeals to the customer.
