The formula for getting me to like (in the true sense, not just the Facebook sense) your commercial is simple: dogs (especially, but any really cute animal will do) and/or humor (it has to be really good*). Below are two commercials that fall into those categories:
Cute dogs + acoustic guitar =I will send this to my mom definitely and probably my boss too
I will laugh privately at this because it's old and embarrassing...Also this is a testament to a) how few truly hilarious commercials are out there and b) my emotional maturity
Obviously, I won't buy a beeper because I'm not a drug dealer from the 90s. I'm going to go ahead and focus on the first commercial, which has been getting a lot of attention in the so-called twitterverse (yeah...I know...) I'll be honest: I'm kind of obsessed with my dog. I have her name tattooed behind my ear (WE'LL NEVER BREAK UP, OKAY??), she's the best, and so on. That's why I don't feed her a product that lists corn as the first ingredient on most of their bags aka Purina. Are other dog owners as obsessive as me? I know there are a few out there. After doing a little internet digging, I found that they have products that don't list corn as the first ingredient. Adding a line like "Check out our grain-free options" at the end of this commercial may have enticed me to click in the emotional state I found myself after the commercial.
I'm actually a pretty good consumer. Here are two commercials that actually worked for me (I bought their product after seeing the commercial). I'm not including any late night purchases (I'm looking at you, custom-made EcoSphere and nearly everything on AsSeenonTV.com)
I use the above video because the entire campaign worked on me. Yes, I bought a Dominoes pizza, and I liked it.
I have several tattoos and I'm proud of all of them (yes, even the one that kind of looks like a pot leaf.) That said, it's good to have a cover up option that's not an unwieldy bangle or oversized sweater sleeve .
There's nothing that special about either of these ads, but they addressed an issue I had and appeared to work. Purina knew how to get dog lovers attention, but not necessarily how to keep it.
*Fart jokes are not "really good" you say? UPDATE: Okay, this commercial made me laugh a lot too, and is another example of something I laughed at but probably won't get involved with. (NOTE: I am specifically tickled by the "It's gold" part...)
Funny. Amazing what's out there. Some really good content. The question is, are viewers just entertained or do they "buy" it.
Girl, you are on fire! Coincidentally (or maybe not) dogs are also my soft spot. I also like tear-jerkers -- seriously, who didn't cry after watching the Google search/Paris spot?? Who needs rom-coms when I can just get my daily dose of "awww" in a 60 second commercial? We ought to thank Google for saving us time and money. Forget the theaters. I'm saving $12 and two hours of my life by hitting up YouTube this Friday night.* (*Pathetic, I know.)
I don't usually comment on here, but I must say Lucia, I was definitely taken back by some of these amazing commercials. I think Dominoes has done an excellent job with their advertising campaigns and while I'm not a big pizza fan, after seeing that commercial, they would definitely be top of mind for me. Also, I was completely amazed at the cover-up commercial. I think because the main character was so intriguing, and the way in which it was produced/created, was really well done. I was literally glued to the screen for the entire 3 minutes. Now, I probably would never purchase the product, but if a friend ever needed a recommendation, they would be the first brand that would pop in my mind.
Another video that I thought really made the viewer think was this one, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYhCn0jf46U, by Dove. Really casts a light on our reality today and does an excellent job at intriguing the viewer.
Jennifer, I love Google commercials as well! The Google search/Paris spot was great, as was the one where the Dad emailed the daughter pictures of her as she was growing up and then gave her the "email" with all of those messages when she was older. Great content.
Thanks for the comment Josh!! The Dove commercial is crazy -- brave of a brand to show how many "alterations" happen between the original subject and the face we see on the final ad.
