Everyone knows about Facebook Pages, right? It's the feature that lets brands, artists, politicians and anyone else join the social conversation. As the social network itself puts it: "Facebook created Pages when we noticed that people were trying to connect with brands and famous artists in ways that didn't quite work on Facebook. We created Pages to offer you a way to accurately represent on Facebook what’s important to you in real life."
All the focus these days is on branded apps, but Pages would seem to be the most obvious place for a brand to turn when starting a social network strategy. So who's using Pages successfully?
AllFacebook, a blog that covers everything Facebook-related, recently launched a little tool that measures the most popular Pages, as well as the daily and weekly growth rates of these pages.
It should comes as no surprise that President Barack Obama, who may forever be know as the first wired president, has the most "fans" of his Facebook Page, with a whopping 4.5 million.
After Obama, the results are a little disappointing. The president has nearly twice as many fans as runner-up Coca-Cola, and the five most popular pages also include Homer J Simpson (at No. 3, with a page that seems to have no direct relation with The Simpsons TV series or its creators), and pizza. Not Pizza Hut, Dominos, Papa John's, or even California Pizza Kitchen. Just plain old pizza.
And then there's the big surprise -- Nutella, which comes in at No. 4 with more than 2.1 million fans. Nutella's Page doesn't seem to have any direct connection with the makers of the hazelnut-based spread, but it does have a lot of user engagement. Nearly 500 people have responded to the thread "How do you eat your Nutella?" and there are more than 11,000 wall posts.
Oh, and did I mention that the Page isn't even in English?
It appears that, perhaps through no effort of its own, Nutella is spreading brand awareness throughout Facebook. Hopefully, brands everywhere are taking note.
